SLAMJUNK Presents: Taylor Plas | Lacy Rose

Tuesday March 10th

Taylor Plas is an Americana/Soul/Folk singer/songwriter based in New York. With her work described as “raw," "powerful," "controlled chaos,” this performance artist takes you on a journey through the senses with her dark, haunting sound and dedication to truthful theatrical storytelling. Her vocal stylings can be heard with the Noise Downstairs, a Brooklyn-based soul/pop band, with Mama Juke, a pop/roots/country band with regular gigs around the city, with The Royale Minks, a psychedelic bubblegum pop group, and performing solo at any number of local venues, house shows, DIY spaces and Artery-Powered Showcases throughout New York and major cities in the US. Her debut album Slow to Tune is available on BandCamp, Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music and other streaming platforms, as well as on CD format. Texas native Lacy Rose is a classically trained vocalist, composer and poet. While living in Austin she sang regularly with the Texas Early Music Project and Austin Baroque Orchestra in addition to hosting numerous parlor concerts at the Sekrit Theater. Since moving to New York, she has collaborated regularly with choreographer Coco Karol and composers Sxip Shirey, Alaina Ferris, and John K. Stone. She has opened for and performed with such eclectic artists as Cocorosie, Baby Dee, Dave Malloy, and Osso String Quartet. She made her Mostly Mozart Festival debut in the Schubertiade Remix at Lincoln Center alongside members of the International Contemporary Ensemble. She performed with Amanda Palmer and Jason Webley for their Phantasmagoria at the Brooklyn Bazaar. As a composer of neoclassical art songs, Lacy regales her audience with tales of magic, myth, tragedy and love. Maria, her six-part song cycle, explores the inner life and personhood of Gustav Klimt's muses, Maria “Mizzi” Zimmermann and Maria “Ria” Munk. Rose composed the score for a theatrical adaptation of Dylan Thomas' screenplay, The Doctor and The Devils, and is currently adapting Clarice Lispector’s The Passion According to G.H. into an opera with director Dara Malina.

SLAMJUNK Presents: Holy Hand Grenade | TOSHIO | Timothy James

Wednesday March 18th

Holy Hand Grenade took on its name in a moment of spontaneity. The band, like it’s name, is a spontaneous, fun and mischievous convergence of Afrobeat, Funk, and Jazz. The band’s seven members, Lynn Ligammari, Lathan Hardy, Dave Palazola, Timothy James, Chris Doyle, Ronnie Lanzilotta and Marcus Farrar, all hail from various parts of the Eastern United States, but draw on sounds spanning generations, continents and genres, with influences ranging from Mulatu Astake and Fela Kuti, to Eddie Harris and El Michels Affair. Members of the band split their time recording and touring with acts like Antibalas, Conor Oberst, Red Baraat, Durand Jones & The Indications, Evolfo, Pronoun, Rodes Rollins, Armo, Touki Delphine, and The Sway Machinery. The Brooklyn ensemble has been kicking around the city’s groove music scene, playing venues such as Brooklyn Bowl, Nublu, Bembe, Queen’s Brewery, Apotheke, and more. In 2018, Mike Allen of Tigershrimp records added Holy Hand Grenade to the label’s burgeoning roster of artists. https://www.hhgnyc.com TOSHIO is a neo-noire rock band from Brooklyn writing an imagined anti-hero cowboy film by Quentin Tarantino, Goddard, and David Lynch.
