Our flash reading series involves snippets of works-in-progress no longer than 5 minutes. Meet our next BQE author Judson Merrill and hear a little flash from his forthcoming novel Paranoid Storytelling along with friends Brian Russ (of the band Hand Gestures), Leo Kouklanakis (of the band Katzin), Heidi Diehl (Lifelines) & Stephen Aubrey (The Assembly). All to a sweet cosmic funk soundtrack provided by The Vinyl Historian.

+Arklight- Experimental rock band from Queens. Punk energy, haunting atmospherics, and metallic noise incursions perched atop a throbbing, tribal rhythmic base. 

+Short Porch- Dark, lyrical storytelling over Crazy Horse meets garage soul grooves. Murder ballads for thinking fellers. 

+Woodhead- Woodhead combines no-wave, post-punk, avant-garde improv, beautiful feedback and ballads creating a texture not quite like anything you've ever heard.  

+Psychic Lines- Phil Jacob’s baffling melodies and existential musings, carried by basser Dann Baker and drummer Nancy Polstein. Like Leonard Cohen leading Lee Ranaldo into Gerry Rafferty’s underwater lair.

+The Zolephants- Protoplasmic-surf-spaghetti-western trio from the foothills of Brooklyn. They combine deep-space synthesizers and electronics with silver-surfing baritone guitars and bombastic drums.

+Sweetbreads- is Melody Stolpp’s Brooklyn based singer-songwriter project. Focusing on sweet sounding melodies and heartfelt lyrics, her songs aim to bend your ear and twist your heart. Her first full length album, “Punisher of Love” is in the works and will begin being released in the fall. 

+Jesse Torres Trio- is a NY based 'acoustic power trio' featuring Pete Coco on double bass and Paul Ceglio on drums. With a sound that ranges from folk to driving pop/rock, their songs contain colorful harmony, dynamic melodies and emotional lyrics, and are performed with a sensibility of improvisation and communication between the band members. 

+LOVE, BURNS- NYC area song-smith, Phil Sutton headlines this special one with his current killer band/project - past leader of Pale Lights and Comet Gain - this latest band delves into the lovely jangle pop with past members of Ladybug Transistor, Crystal Stilts and Great Lakes - purity
