Nice Strong Arm, Phantom Tollbooth, Flower

+Nice Strong Arm- FIRST NYC SHOW in over 30 years!!! One of the original proponents of the "Homestead" sound, Nice Strong Arm quickly found comparison with the likes of Live Skull and Sonic Youth.  Their work was characterized by swirling dirges with heavy guitars. They grew in  sophistication during their career, producing dense walls of sound which verged on art rock territory. The band reunites with a string of Northeast shows.

+Phantom Tollbooth- Following a successful reunion at the DromFest festival last year, Phantom Tollbooth have been active with new shows AND new material. Founding guitar/bass duo Dave Rick and Gerard Smith have recruited Paul Andrew on the drums since 2025 and they are killing it! They even debuted a few new tracks that sound like 1988 all over again - amazing!

+Flower- Post-punk noise/pop band from NYC formed in1986 featuring later members of Versus, French, and Cell. Flower was a staple of the NYC underground scene carved out by Sonic Youth, Live Skull, Swans, etc, utilizing the noise elements of the aforementioned artists to deepen the textures of more classically oriented pop/rock songs. They continue to perform and record today.

Under the BQE Press 2nd Anniversary

Under the BQE Press 2nd Anniversary

Helen Georgas, Sean Anderson, Elaine Yellow Horse, Judson Merrill, and Amy WIlkinson will all be reading from recently finished and forthcoming works, and I can't wait for their voices to share a stage for the night. (If you have time, you should click on all their links and read their bios!)

Kings County Distillery is sponsoring the event, and there will be $14 Manhattans, and $8 shot-and-beer combos all night. A portion of all bar sales will support the press, so drink up and tip your bartenders!

A live jazz set from Drew Edwards will bless the stage before the reading and an all vinyl Ethiopian Jazz set from the Vinyl Historian will close the night. The Muddy Lotus will also be sharing an intention setting yoga pose to carry with us into fall as we straddle the energy shift that comes with the change of the season.

The night promises to be a meeting of the minds! But more than that, I just want it to be the sort of thing where we all get to appreciate the warmth of a Brooklyn night in great company, so we can collectively stockpile the good vibes and carry them in to whatever is coming for us next.

Life is crazy, and time moves fast.  Let's listen to one another's stories, celebrate the fact that Under the BQE still exists, toast to the season ahead, and just hang!

Here's the link to RSVP.

178 Product, The Silos, Hey Fever

+One Seven Eight Product- performs an unprepared music precisely in the moment for those in attendance. The project evolved out of the basement studio at 178 Ludlow Street LES where Liquid Liquid alum Sal P. held things together for 27 short years.  Their sound is sometimes described as bongo kraut rock with disco punk overtones it's focused yet playful unexpected & at times exhilarating truly music of for & by the times

+The Silos- began as a musical force in 1985 with the release of their first album “About Her Steps” along with a series of gigs in their hometown neighborhood, the East Village of New York City. They were part of New York’s post-punk ‘80s scene and played Indie Rock, Alt-Rock, Alt-Country, and Americana before any critics coined those terms. Heralded at their outset by Rolling Stone as "America's Best New Band," the resilient Silos mix punk, roots, rock, and sage art-damaged truth telling.

+Hey Fever- crawled out of some NYC basement in 2024 like it owed the city money, and it hasn’t stopped snarling since. This crew smashes punk’s snarl into indie rock’s hooks and alt-rock’s whatever-the-hell-we-want attitude, then plays it loud enough that you stop asking questions. Live, they’re a controlled disaster — the kind of unpredictable that makes you want to stand closer to the speakers, not farther away.

Doak Hensley, Diving Rod, Van Hayride, Katie Curley

+Doak Hensley- is an American songwriter from Happy Place, TX. His songs are textured with the dust and grit of the great American landscape, woven from tales of salt of the earth folks. Inspired by hippies, rednecks, outlaws, and old cowboys who never thought much of labels, Doak’s music will put a boogie in the britches of anyone with boots to scoot and an ear to bend. He’ll be glad to see you when he does, and you’ll be glad you did when you’re gone.

+Diving Rod- indie-country rock

+Van Hayride- countrified Van Halen tribute

+Katie Curley- is a New York-based singer-songwriter. She has recorded several studio albums with producer and roots music legend Eric Ambel (Steve Earle, Bottle Rockets). Fully Furnished, Mary Hood, Dead Drops, Todd,

+Fully Furnished- is an eclectic, energetic, and eccentric music project based in Brooklyn, New York. Drawing from various genres such as surf rock, prog rock, psychedelic rock, post punk and jazz fusion, they deliver an energetic live set (each one different from the last) that takes you on a delicious sonic fever dream of a ride.

+Mary Hood- is an indie folk/rock singer/songwriter who enjoys incorporating raw emotion and authentic storytelling into dreamlike whimsy.
They are celebrating their first collaborative full band EP release “Simple Machines” with Griffin Jennings(guitar), Billy coughlin(drums), Brian hart(bass), and guest musician- Toni Batey on saxophone. The band has gone in different directions, but invites everyone to celebrate the release, share, and listen because it is something that they all put a lot of work into and are very proud of!!

+Dead Drops- are a three-piece garage rock outfit from all over new york state. Forming out of the ashes different bands from the hudson vally, The Dead Drops are now under the foresight of their frontmann Matt Muller who has moved their headquarters to Brooklyn, NY. Drawing infulince from the White Stripes, Nirvana and The Drones, The Dead Drops are here to bring a ripping anolog sound to an increasingly digital world. The bands chemistry and rousing proformances are infamous in the region, so don't miss your chance to see The Dead Drops live!

+Todd- (the band) is a new-gen emo project fueled by vulnerability and curiosity. The four-piece breathes new life to songs that started with nothing more than an acoustic guitar and a single voice. Todd is not so much a person as it is a state of mind: a willingness to shed old skin to create something authentic. With equal parts catharsis and rage, the band transforms intimate songwriting into explosive arrangements for crowds to scream along to. Production of their debut EP, “Bad Luck” has just wrapped, and Todd is preparing to bring these songs into the world. Keep an eye out for release announcements - or better yet, get to a show and hear them live first.

Nite Music, The Planes, Verdi Girls

+Nite Music- Nite Music is a NYC rock n' roll band established in 2022. Their goal is to bring the original thesis of rock n’ roll: two electric guitars, bass and drums, into the 21st century, an expression of freedom and ecstasy for the post-apocalypse.  Named after the “Night Music” (1988-1990) the live music TV program presented by Michelob (with a nod to “Nick at Nite”) the band was formed by Jamie Frey, the former frontman and songwriter of NO ICE and The Brooklyn What, recruiting three vital members of the NYC music community: guitarist Bryan Thornton of Holy Tunics and drummer Jamie Williams and bassist Amanda Webster, formerly of Phil From Accounting. Their inspiration spans from the Great American Songbook and the Brill Building to post punk, disco and art rock. Listed as one of the hardest working bands in New York City by the Oh My Rockness blog in 2023 and 2024, Nite Music have brought their soulful ballast to everywhere from backroom dives and DIY basements to prestige venues across America.

+The Planes-The Planes were founded in 2009 in a dilapidated Brooklyn apartment by Massachusetts-born songwriter Stephen Otto Perry and a loose collection of friends. Soon a regular lineup was formed and the band began playing local shows in venues that are now all banks, condos, or overpriced restaurants. They released their first full-length album in 2011, and since then have chugged along with a rotating cast of characters to release five more albums, four EPs, and a handful of singles. Through sporadic gigging, half-hearted DIY promo, and the kind words of a few bloggers, DJs, and playlisters, The Planes have built a small global fanbase, from London to New London.
