Theoxenia is a duo of Dave Shuford (No Neck Blues Band, D. Charles Speer, Rhyton) and Margot Bianca (The Assault, Frankie Rose and the Outs, Black Dirt Oak) and takes influence from many corners. Rebetika, drone, laïkó, bluegrass, and global folk-rock forms all blend into a ritualistic brew of sound.
"Clockwatching" is the debut instrumental solo endeavor of Mike Horn (Seawind of Battery), who’s released more cosmic American music as Goldkey and Sunblinders. He leans deeper into the cosmic realm with Seawind of Battery, an ambient, experimental exercise that acts as a sonic balm for those in a state of existential anxiety. Mastered by Sean Conrad of Inner Islands & Channelers, with design by Steve Rosborough of Moon Glyph, this is the first release under the brand-new Island House Recordings. Guitar loops and call-and-response lap steel fill the space just so, and as the project title invokes, there’s a touch of an aquatic vibe here a la fellow New Yorkers Gunn-Truscinski Duo’s Soundkeeper, with its shimmering, endless drone behind intricate strums and haunting licks.
Liam Grant is an instrumental guitar player with a punk ethos cut from the American Primitive cloth. He made his debut in 2021 with his album "Swung Heavy: Gitarr for Fanatics," released through the Sound-O-Mat, which was followed by seemingly endless touring through 2022 and 2023 both solo and with seasoned veterans such as Mike Gangloff (Pelt, Black Twig Pickers) and Buck Curran (Arborea). A split 7-inch single with Gangloff was released in January, and his full length LP "Amoskeag" is in being released through Carbon Records and Feeding Tube Records by August - accompanied by a split 7-in single with Spiral Joy Band via the Sound-O-Mat.
