8PM: AVRAM FEFER'S JUBA LEE 4TET
Falling on a spectrum between Charles Mingus and Ornette Coleman, along with influences from Morocco and Ethiopia, the music of multi-instrumentalist Avram Fefer involves reconciling cultural influences, especially the long and prolific history of Jewish and African American collaboration in the field of Jazz. His goal is to create an experimental global sound that challenges attitudes and preconceptions about music and community. The Juba Lee 4tet will draw from Avram’s highly acclaimed recent albums - Juba Lee and Testament - bringing to Brooklyn the same sonic excitement they’ve been sharing recently on European Festival stages. The Juba Lee 4tet will make you smile, dance, and scratch your head as they lead you through a diverse set of sophisticated global jazz celebrating Improvisation, Groove, and Liberation in all its forms.
